DIVISION 1 SECONDS
SEASON WRAP
Season 2013/2014 was a mix of disappointment and success.
If we were to look at the total number of wins that all our
senior teams had, it looks to be a disappointing year for the
club
This is where we need to look below the surface. Prior to
the season starting there were a number of experienced
players that for one reason or another decided to take a well
earned break. During the first part of the season we also had
a couple of guys stop playing due to injuries. These things
combined with a list of players that were already young and
inexperienced meant that it was going to be a tough year
The focus was to attempt to fast track the development of
the younger guys for the future success of the club.
I believe that with the fantastic junior program that Marshall,
the junior coaches and junior committee have created, that
over the next 2-3 years all the senior teams will be stronger
and competition for playing positions will be where we need
them to be to make the club much more successful on the
field
A quick look at some success this year was Bubbie winning
another league MVP, Cameron Deeble having a fantastic year
and winning the club MVP and batting award, Luke Utting
making the u18 state team and starting in the 1’s by the end
of the year. AJ winning back to back 2’s MVP after shoulder-
ing nearly all the pitching responsibilities due to a couple of
injuries to other pitchers, Darcy catching nearly all year in
the 2’s with all sorts of injuries and winning the 2’s batting
award, and congrats to Ian Cross for coaching the only win
for the year for 2’s 3’s & 4’s
These were just a small sample of a lot of good things that
happened this year
We should all look forward to the continued upward climb of
Preston over the next couple of years so other clubs will look
at what we’ve done and see it’s a been a success
