This year we expanded out into a second Buc’s Masters team
and the season in the 1’s and 2’s was a great success.
In the Buc’s 1’s we played in Division 1 for the first time after
being ‘Runners up’ then back-to-back ‘Premiers’ in Division
Two our first 3 years.
This year we were pretty much in the Four for the entire
year and had some fantastic victories along the way against
some very good teams, and the ‘big boys’ quickly learnt to
respect us or else find themselves on the wrong side of the
scoreline.
Poley had a great year on the bump and the Batting Award
was a tight contest between Maxy and Gaz most of the
year until Dave bloused them both in the last game. The
boys pretty much all hit well all year and played solid ‘D’
throughout, and Poley then Dave (when he came of age)
were rarely giving up much in the way of runs keeping nearly
all of our game ‘winnable’.
In the end we got beaten by a run in a heartbreaker in the
Division 1 Semi Final by the team (Geelong) that ended up
winning it all again.
Big thanks to our darling scorer Claire and all of our
supporters. Also thanks to DaveN and Alex up in the Canteen
too.
The 2’s with so many lads new to Masters and somewhat
new to the game, had many a game where they were in it
but couldn’t ‘seal the deal’ late, and whilst the wins were
for the most part not there, the effort clearly was. Thanks to
Mozza for all his help and support with the 2’s all year.
So it was a great Masters season for all of us Buc’s and
massive fun was had by all which was a credit to all
concerned.
We then took a team up to the State Masters in Ballarat in
March and played in the 35+ Division and played off in the
Final after a great 5 Game series prior, playing a very strong
Geelong and having a respectable loss in the big one (our
first appearance in the 35+ Final).
Well done to all and thanks to those within the club that
supported us and our positive approach to the game and our
often winning culture.
Gary Cotchin.
