2025 was always going to be a historic year in the history of the Moonee Valley Racing Club and the past 12 months didn’t let us down with plenty of highlights to re ect upon on the track. 1. VIA SISTINA – Ladbrokes Cox Plate In a way it was the perfect send-o , a W.S. Cox Plate thriller for the ages in front of a sell-out crowd of 22,000 patrons. The 105th running of ‘Australia’s Best Race’ certainly delivered as Via Sistina joined the greats as a dual winner of the W.S. Cox Plate and James McDonald recorded an incredible fourth consecutive win. The track record holder certainly had a ght on her hands in the form of Chris Waller’s stablemate Buckaroo and by saluting she became the rst eight-year-old mare to win the race. 2. PRIDE OF JENNI – Ladbrokes Feehan Stakes The last horse to win the Ladbrokes Feehan Stakes back-to-back was The Cleaner, who similar to Pride of Jenni had a cult following with their front-running racing styles. While Pride of Jenni might have been expected to win in 2024, it was a di erent story this year as she returned from a spell and with the new boom horse Treasurethe Moment on the scene.
