CHAIR ADAM LENNEN CHAIR’S WELCOME WE’RE SET FOR ANOTHER EXCITING LADBROKES FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS MEETING AT SOUTHSIDE CRANBOURNE. Last Friday night delivered plenty of excitement, highlighted by a blistering run from Port Albert in the Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge Series 2, launching trainer Nick Ryan to the top of the leaderboard. Tonight, we move into Heat 5, with 55.23 now the benchmark to beat. We’ll also be looking to build on the terrific momentum of Cheering For Charity. Olney’s victory last week resulted in a $2,000 donation to Legacy, thanks to the generosity of our Principal Partner, Ladbrokes. Tonight, we proudly support our next charity partner, HeartKids, the only Australian charity dedicated to providing lifelong support, resources, and advocacy for those impacted by childhood-onset heart disease (CoHD). The Ladbrokes Friday Night Lights action returns to Southside Cranbourne in a fortnight, and we hope you can join us on track on 27 February or soak up the atmosphere at our popular Members’ Hub at Legends.

BY BEN SPORLE Port Albert might have gone 468 days between wins, but Nick Ryan’s galloper certainly hasn’t forgotten how to run fast, after clocking 55.23 to take the mantle as the Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge Series 2 leader following his win last Friday night. It’s not the first time the six-year-old has been successful over the unique distance of 955-metres winning on Ladbrokes Cox Plate Eve in 2024 at The Valley – ironically in the exact same time! It has been a case of each horse running a fast time than the heat previously, with Scott Cameron’s Sharing Moments time of 55.56 only holding the clubhouse leader position for seven days. PORT ALBERT CLOCKS IDENTICAL 955M TIME AT TWO DIFFERENT TRACKS
13 Ridden by Jamie Mott, who rode a double from just three rides on the metropolitan program held at Southside Cranbourne, Port Albert arrived just in time over the 955 metres, while also having to survive a protest hearing. A $180,000 yearling purchase by Ryan’s stepfather and renowned bloodstock agent Jeff Gordon, the son of Sooboog has now banked over $400,000 in career earnings and sees his trainer with one hand on a cheque for $25,000 with thanks to Ladbrokes. “It’s been a while between drinks for him but he’s a handy little sprinter on his day,” Ryan explained. “The race was set up for him when they went hard up front… we targeted this race five weeks between runs and he’s been in the zone and I was pretty keen on him tonight.” Port Albert is likely to be back for the Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge Series 2 final conducted for $130,000 on March 13 at Southside Cranbourne.
