The Valley

30 VALE MAKYBE DIVA The Moonee Valley Racing Club proudly honours 2005 W.S. Cox Plate champion Makybe Diva. A mare who transcended the sport, she holds a unique place in Australian racing history. Her victory in the 2005 Cox Plate for trainer Lee Freedman, with Glen Boss in the saddle, produced one of the race’s most iconic moments as she loomed into contention as part of a wall of horses approaching the home turn, before finishing strongly in the straight. It was the penultimate start of her career, which concluded with an unprecedented third consecutive Melbourne Cup victory. Makybe Diva retired with an outstanding record of 36 starts for 15 wins, four seconds and three thirds, earning $14,526,685 in prizemoney.
