Moonee Valley Racing Club respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of this land, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the Kulin Nation, and pay our respects to its Elders past, present and emerging. CHAIR ADAM LENNEN CHAIR’S WELCOME HELLO AND WELCOME TO LADBROKES FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. We spectacularly launched the night racing season last week at Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes Night. A crowd of 10,000 packed The Valley and enjoyed a brilliant mix of racing and entertainment. Charm Stone delivered at long odds for Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr in the Group 1 feature, while the loudest cheer of the evening was reserved for Pride Of Jenni, who thrilled the crowd by going back-to-back in the Group 2 Ladbrokes Feehan Stakes. Cheering For Charity also got off to a fantastic start, with Charcoal’s victory earning $2,000 for Myeloma Australia courtesy of Ladbrokes. Tonight, we hope to keep that momentum going for our charity partner, Breast Cancer Network Australia. Beast Mode set the benchmark in Heat 1 of the Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge with a sharp 55.17. Series 1 will continue with three heats here at The Valley before the action shifts later in the season. This evening, we proudly recognise our Club 100 members at their annual dinner. On behalf of the Committee, I thank you for your unwavering support and wish you a memorable night. Excitement now builds towards the 2025 Ladbrokes Cox Plate Carnival, which promises to be one for the ages. It all begins on Friday, October 24, with Ladbrokes Gold Cup Night and continues into a historic Ladbrokes Cox Plate Day. I look forward to welcoming you back trackside for two extraordinary meetings at The Valley.

Seemingly 10,000 fans were in agreeance with him last Friday night when the crowd erupted for Pride of Jenni, not as she turned for home, but as she was halfway through her 1600 metre mission for back-to-back Ladbrokes Feehan Stakes wins. The last horse to achieve consecutive wins in the race was The Cleaner ten years earlier – with a similar racing style and cult following – but even he would have been enviable of the roar last Friday night. Declan Bates is no stranger to ‘Jenni-mania’ but he too was taken aback. “I think it’s the first time I’ve ever hard the crowd because normally it’s just me and her but the crowd at The Valley must’ve give some roar,” Bates said. When the crowd roared and the stars delivered By Ben Sporle Ciaron Maher has been around horses all of his life so when the master trainer says ‘this horse amazes me’ you have to sit back and take notice.

“Because I could hear them at the 600 metres and I thought ‘I must’ve had them in trouble’ if they are cheering. “She really lengthened down the side and when she does that you know she’s really on and I knew at the point we were in business.” In business she was - and with Treasurethe Moment four years her junior chasing ten straight wins in pursuit – Jenni showed age is just a number. Speaking of age, Blake Shinn was celebrating turning 38 last Friday night in the best possible fashion winning his first Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes aboard Charm Stone. The birthday boy delivered a pearler to navigate off the fence from barrier two – a gate which was expertly picked out by owner Sheamus Mills’ 11-year-old son Lucas earlier that week. “It’s a pretty special day to be able to celebrate Group 1,” Shinn said. “Wow, a time-honoured race the Manikato it's wonderful to be able to win it and just seeing Gary Willets then brings back a lot of memories. “Gee, you couldn’t put a figure on what she’d be worth as a broodmare now.” Some have tried however – a 10% share in Charm Stone sold online only days before her second Group 1 win, valuing her at $3.1 million. For all that is said about high-priced yearlings, the daughter of I Am Invincible has proved her $1.55 million price tag as a juvenile was money well spent. The song lyrics say ‘some days are diamonds, some days are stone’ but this is one stone you wouldn’t mind owning.
