The Queen Elizabeth Stakes was first run in 1954 in celebration of the visit by Queen Elizabeth to Royal Randwick Racecourse. Lightly weighted outsider Blue Ocean won against key horses of the era. Tulloch (NZ) was a three-time winner of the Stakes, claiming victory in 1958, 1960, and 1961, with George Moore aboard for two wins and Neville Sellwood for the other. Grand Armee secured back-to-back victories in 2004 and 2005, while the legendary Winx dominated with an unprecedented three consecutive wins in 2017, 2018, and 2019. More recently, the internationally trained Addeybb secured successive victories in 2020 and 2021, both times with Tom Marquand in the saddle. 2009 winner Pompeii Ruler took out an exciting race with Sarrera and Metal Bender dead heating in second.
