70 This year marks the 10th running of The TAB Everest. First contested over 1,200 metres at Royal Randwick in 2017, the race has quickly established its place in the history of Australian racing, creating its own traditions and memorable moments. Redzel claimed the inaugural running for trainers Peter and Paul Snowden and jockey Kerrin McEvoy. Twelve months later, he successfully defended his title, becoming the first horse to win The TAB Everest twice, establishing a standard for the winners who followed. The race’s history also reflects the achievements of its leading trainers and jockeys. Chris Waller prepared Yes Yes Yes for victory in 2019 before returning to the winner’s circle with Nature Strip in 2021. McEvoy further cemented his place in The TAB Everest’s history with his third victory aboard Classique Legend in 2020, following his back-to-back wins on Redzel. Though young by Royal Randwick’s standards, The TAB Everest has already produced champion sprinters, memorable finishes and defining performances, adding new chapters to the story of Australian racing.
