First run in 1996 as the Breeders Classic, the race was won by Destruct. Since then, it has moved between Royal Randwick, Warwick Farm and Rosehill Racecourse. In 2019, the race moved from the autumn to the spring calendar, joining The Everest Carnival in November. This change resulted in two editions being run in the same year, with the distance set at 1400 metres. The race was renamed the Hot Danish Stakes in 2019 in honour of the outstanding mare, who won the race herself in 2009.
