58 The Hawkesbury Guineas was first run in 1871, making it one of Australia’s oldest races. Originally known as the Hawkesbury Derby and run over a distance of 1 mile, since 2006 the race has been run over 1400m under set weights and penalty conditions for 3 year olds. The Hawkesbury Guineas was a Listed Race from 2000 until 2013 and was promoted to Group 3 status in 2014. Significant winners include 6x time Group 1 winner Chautauqua (2014) and Group 1 winners; Schwarz (2024) Alverta (2007) and Mr Innocent (1999). Shazee Lee trained by Scott Singleton won the Hawkesbury Guineas in 2017 and is the most recent Hawkesbury trained horse to win the race. Military Zone trained by Peter & Paul Snowden holds the race record at 1:21.34 (2019).
