Hawkesbury

31 The Hawkesbury Race Club formed in 1829, is the oldest established race club in Australia. The first race meeting held on the current Clarendon track was in 1871. Racing in the Hawkesbury prior to this date was held at two race courses; Killarney, McGraths Hill (1803-1830s & 1865-1870) and The Australian Racecourse, Windsor (1834-1865). Group 1 winners trained at Hawkesbury since 1990 include Prince Trialia, Turridu, Quick Star, Mr Bureaucrat, Landsighting, In Top Swing, Famous Seamus, Spright, Duais, Icebath and Communist. Some well-known champion horses that have raced at Hawkesbury include the likes of Jorrocks, Archer, Poseidon, Chautauqua and the mighty Phar Lap. Inaugurally run in 2006, this year we celebrate the 21st Anniversary of the Standalone Saturday race meeting. IMAGE: JORROCKS, THE HAWKESBURY CHAMPION RACEHORSE History Highlights
