27 A newer addition to Hawkesbury Cup Day, the Clarendon Stakes was first run in 2006. It remains the feature 2 year old race for Hawkesbury run over 1400m under handicap conditions. Significant winners include Zardozi (2023) who went onto win the G1 VRC Oaks, multiple Group places and ran 4th in the 2024 Melbourne Cup. Zoustar (2013) who went onto win two Group 1 races and has become a champion stallion, standing at Widden Stud. Villa Splendido trained by Garry White won the 2012 Clarendon Stakes and is the most recent Hawkesbury trained horse to win the race. Royal Discretion trained by Gai Waterhouse holds the race record 1:22.53 (2007). Royal Discretion went onto win the 2008 Hawkesbury Guineas.
