The Taj Rossi Series is named after the outstanding galloper trained by Bart Cummings. Purchased for $18,000 at the 1972 Adelaide Yearling Sales, Taj Rossi began racing as a two-year-old in Adelaide, with his first wins at Flemington in 1973. That spring, he finished second at Moonee Valley before a brilliant run of six wins from seven starts, including the Ascot Vale Stakes, Moonee Valley Stakes, W.S. Cox Plate, Victoria Derby, George Adams Handicap, and Sandown Guineas. Bart Cummings called him “one of the best, if not the best, three-yearold that Australia has known in the last 50 years.” These achievements earned Taj Rossi the 1973-74 Racehorse of the Year award. Retired to stud at four, he sired Taj Eclipse, winner of the 1983 VRC Oaks, also owned by Victor Peters. Taj Rossi Series Final
