CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE There is always something special about Group 1 racing at Caulfield, but today carries even greater significance as we celebrate the Melbourne Racing Club’s 150th year. The Underwood Stakes has been part of the fabric of the Australian spring for generations, bringing some of our finest horses to Caulfield and producing performances that have become part of this racecourse’s history. Today, another chapter will be written. The Group 1 Henley Homes Underwood Stakes has attracted another outstanding field, headed by 2024 winner Buckaroo, alongside Cosmic Crusader and Birdman in the 1800-metre weight-for-age feature. The Group 1 Sportsbet Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes also promises to be one of the highlights of the afternoon, with dual All-Star Mile winner Tom Kitten and the progressive Regal Award among the quality horses contesting one of Australia’s great 1400-metre handicaps. The race could also provide another remarkable piece of Caulfield history, with Craig Williams chasing a record-extending ninth Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes victory aboard Lady Shenandoah. But perhaps what makes today most significant is the opportunity to recognise some of the people who have already written their names into Melbourne Racing Club’s history. Today, we are joined by over 70 Group 1-winning jockeys and trainers, whose achievements span generations of racing. Between them are extraordinary horses, unforgettable races and moments that those who love racing remember for a lifetime. As part of MRC150, we are proud to recognise them as the inaugural Group 1 Winner Members of the Melbourne Racing Club – a special membership granted for life in recognition of their achievements and contribution to our Club. Later today, our Group 1 winners will come together in the Mounting Yard after Race 4 for a special ceremony, giving racegoers the opportunity to recognise and celebrate their achievements.
