Australian Racing Fact Book 2012/13 5
On behalf of Racing Information Services Australia (RISA) I am delighted to welcome you to the 2013 Australian
Racing Fact Book – A Guide to the Racing Industry in Australia.
This edition marks the second year that RISA has been appointed by the Australian Racing Board (ARB) to
compile and manage this important industry publication on the ARB’s behalf.
Following the successful transition from print to online last year, this edition has once again been compiled for
online publication only.
While the Racing Material content included this year has remained relatively consistent to enable historical
comparison and analysis, this year’s design has been developed by the RISA team to be more contemporary and
representative of the vibrant nature of the Thoroughbred Racing Industry nationally.
In addition to that generated by RISA, the information contained within this book is aggregated from multiple
sources including Principal, Race Clubs, Wagering Operators, Breeders, Sales Agents and Government Agencies
Racing Authorities. To each and everyone involved in this process, we extend our gratitude.
RISA’s capacity to provide full compilation and publication services as is the case for this 2013 Australian
Racing Fact Book is consistent with RISA’s strategy to diversify our operations beyond our traditional services
and revenue streams. Continuing to distribute a percentage of RISA’s profits back to our industry via non-
repayable grants is fundamental and the expansion of our Digital Publishing Services is core to this strategy.
During the last twelve months RISA and the ARB have proudly collaborated further with RISA completing
the redesign, development, launch and ongoing hosting of the ARB’s two key website assets namely
and
. We continue to leverage our digital publishing
expertise in the creation of services and solutions across the thoroughbred racing industry and beyond the ARB
websites to a number of other websites and publishing projects.
I trust that you once again find this important industry publication a useful source of timely industry
information to assist with your analysis of the Thoroughbred Racing Industry.
