Where barrier trials are conducted at the conclusion of a country race meeting and the amount of available light restricts the number of trials conducted, preference will be given to firstly, horses having their first trial or horses which have been ordered to trial by the stewards, followed by unraced horses and then horses resuming. Where applicable the remainder of the field will be determined by ballot. The following Conditions are to apply for all barrier trials conducted by country race clubs from 1st June, 2008: 1.Please note that should a Club receive less than four nominations for any trial date, no Barrier Trial will be conducted on that day. 2.Each set of barrier trials must cater for maidens or unraced horses and winners. After a six month trial ended 30 June 2011, the following conditions are confirmed:- 1. An official barrier trial conducted on a raceday must be run over a distance of at least 800-metres, ridden in by licensed jockeys, apprentices or approved riders with no less than four starters (LR5). 2. If at the closing time of nominations less then four horses are entered then the Stewards or race club officials will (whenever possible) contact the trainers of those horses nominated and offer the opportunity of nominating additional horses for the trial to bring the field to the minimum required number of four starters 3. If a trainer referred to in Clause 2 without due cause; a) fails to present such additional horse(s) to trial or; b) presents an additional horse to trial that is deemed uncompetitive by Stewards, then the privileges of Clause 2 of being invited to add a late nomination may not again be extended to such trainer 4. A horse which holds a race acceptance may not be instead added to a trial field From 1 July 2011, Racing NSW will monitor the practical outcome of the conditions above and review the process if required.
