www.racingnsw.com.au THE KOSCIUSZKO I mmediately after a draw for The Kosciuszko race, winning slot holders were scrambling to secure a horse for the $1.3 million event over 1200m to be staged at Royal Randwick on Saturday 16 October. Members of the public were invited to purchase $5 sweepstake tickets to win one of the slots for The Kosciuszko with the winners drawn on September 9. Each winner was then invited to select a NSW country or ACT- trained horse to represent them after agreeing with the horse’s owners as to how they will share the prizemoney for the race. The top four horses in TAB’s market for The Kosciuszko were snapped quickly up by slot holders: Handle the Truth ($4.50 favourite), Art Cadeau ($6), Front Page ($7) and Edit ($11). Handle the Truth will be chasing his second win in the race, having taken out the 2019 edition with Nash Rawiller aboard. At the time of print there were three vacant slots remaining with some top fancies untouched: Spiranac ($11), Fender ($13), Patino Ruby ($15), My Benalla and Visinari ($17). One of latest horse to gain a slot was the Scone-trained Mr Hussill, with trainer Cameron Crockett deciding to have the horse on the fresh side for a first- up tilt. Crockett has kept the six- year-old away from raceday since his last appearance early September when he turned in an outstanding performance for second to roughie Jerry in a Highway race at Royal Randwick. The gelding raced wide throughout yet still powered home for second.
