24 John Rule was a true stalwart of the Warrnambool Racing Club; as a member, committeeman, chairman, sponsor and owner. He became a member of the club in February 1956, and at the time of his death on 7 August 2024 may well have been our longest-standing member. Born in Melbourne, John spent many years in Warrnambool after his mother, Grace Hammond, moved the family back to Warrnambool to be near her parents following the early death of her husband, John’s father, Thomas Rule. This would turn out to be a boon for Warrnambool as John became a very successful businessmen and a significant contributor to the local community, most notably through our club. At the request of his mother, John took up the challenge of running the family business Hammond & Sons, now Hammonds Paints. The business celebrated its 150 anniversary in 2024. It is the longest running business in Warrnambool and only one year younger than our club. th ( ) 1932-2024 JOHN CLIVE RULE
