85 Author of six bestsellers on World War I and World War II, Roland Perry began his writing career as a journalist at The Age, and is the only author to have produced books on both the major battle zones of the Great War (1914-1918). In 2011, Perry was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia ‘for service to literature as an author’ and, in 2012, Monash University bestowed a Professorship on Perry. He is the University’s first Writer-inResidence, lecturing PhDs and PhD aspirants on all aspects of writing and Australian history. His book, Bill the Bastard, the story of Australia’s greatest war-horse, was published in November 2012.
