Moonee Valley Racing Club respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of this land, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the Kulin Nation, and pay our respects to its Elders past, present and emerging. I’M THRILLED TO WELCOME YOU TO LADBROKES COX PLATE EVE TO COMMENCE THE BEST 24 HOURS OF RACING ACTION AND ENTERTAINMENT IN AUSTRALIA, THE 2023 LADBROKES COX PLATE CARNIVAL. Racing under lights at The Valley is an amazing spectacle and there’s no bigger night than Ladbrokes Cox Plate Eve. Taking centre stage this year is the Group 2 Ladbrokes Moonee Valley Gold Cup over 2500m. It’s Moonee Valley Racing Club’s oldest race, first run back in 1883 shortly after the opening of W.S Cox’s Moonee Valley racecourse. Incredibly, it’s the 141st running of the race. It’s steeped in history and remains a key staying event of the Spring Carnival. Another feature is the Group 3 Japan Racing Association Cup over 2040m, having moved from September to take its place on the Ladbrokes Cox Plate Carnival programme. The JRA Cup was first run in 1993. Also on the card is the Listed Chautauqua Stakes, with the race named in honour of the ‘Grey Flash’, who took out the 2015 Manikato Stakes. Junior riders will also get their chance to shine on the big stage, with the second leg of the National Pony Racing Series taking place. There will be two categories of competition, with the first event taking place between Race 1 and Race 2, and the second between Race 3 and Race 4. The racing will be incredible, as will the entertainment, which will continue after the last. ARIA award-winning DJ Will Sparks will perform a post-race concert at the Ladbrokes Lawn Party. What a night it will be to launch the Ladbrokes Cox Plate Carnival. Thank you for attending The Valley and I hope you all enjoy the exciting racing and festivities on Ladbrokes Cox Plate Eve.
