This feature event is named in honour of former Moonee Valley Racing Club Chairman, Don Abell, recognising his significant contribution to the Club. The excitement continues with heats of The Valley Summer Middle Distance Series and Sprint Series, along with Heat 6 of the Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge. Port Albert’s impressive time of 55.23 for trainer Nick Ryan sets a strong benchmark, but a quality field lines up tonight to challenge that mark. We are also proud to continue our association with Living Legends as this evening’s Cheering For Charity partner. Living Legends provides lifelong care and meaningful engagement opportunities for retired champion racehorses. A guaranteed $500 donation will be made to Living Legends, with $2,000 contributed by our Principal Partner, Ladbrokes, if tonight’s Cheering For Charity runner is successful. Raced three wide without cover throughout. Rider stated as the gelding was inconvenienced shortly after the start, then raced keenly when attempting to gain cover and when runners improved to her inside, she was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. SANL 04/06/2025 Mahsay Approaching the 600m became awkwardly placed on the heels of another runner as it lost ground, losing a considerable ground and as a result was eased from the event. MRPK 06/09/2025 Race 6 Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge Series 2 - Heat 6 955M Shirshov Slow to begin. Rider Daniel Stackhouse reported, in his opinion, the gelding was not suited by the weight impost. He added Shirshov was not suited by today’s Good 3 track conditions CRAN 22/11/2025 Core Concept Approaching the 200m was steadied when momentarily crowded. RAND26/07/2025 El Pibe De Oro Held up for clear running from the 400m until after approaching the 100m. BRTS 04/08/2025 Cannyworth Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained to gain cover. FLEM 13/09/2025 Egerton Vet exam prior to race and was passed fit to start. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight. Altered course near the 150m to continue into clear running. Rdr said he had been inst to be midfield, however mount which was back in distance began only fairly and then did not muster speed and as a result settled towards the rear. Added mount did not travel well with strong tempo however once clear ran on strongly. A post-race vet examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the right hind.
