The Valley

Moonee Valley Racing Club respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of this land, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the Kulin Nation, and pay our respects to its Elders past, present and emerging. Our first stakes race of the 2023/24 season will be run on Saturday, with the Listed Paramount Liquor Carlyon Stakes, named in honour of Norman Carlyon. He had a profound impact on the Moonee Valley Racing Club, first as a Committee member, before going on to serve as Chairman from 1989 to 1997, spearheading a number of initiatives including playing a pivotal role in the introduction of night racing. Last year the race was taken out by Bella Nipotina and proved to be the launching pad for a fruitful Spring, with the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace mare going on to win the Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes, her first victory at Group 1 level. Our new Junior Jocks mascot, Crossword the Shetland pony, proved a big hit with families at his first appearance at The Valley at our last meeting, and he’ll be on course once again! Make sure you head to the stalls for a pat. Best of luck to all connections on Saturday and we can’t wait to see you here again on September 9 for Ladbrokes Cox Plate Qualifier Day, featuring the Group 2 Clamms Seafood Feehan Stakes. CHAIR ADAM LENNEN CHAIR’S WELCOME IT’S AN EXCITING TIME AT THE VALLEY WITH SPRING CARNIVAL JUST AROUND THE CORNER.
