HELLO AND WELCOME TO LADBROKES FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS FOR OUR LAST MEETING OF SPRING. It’s set to be another exciting night under lights, including Heat 6 of the Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge, as everyone continues to chase the time set by Shirshov. Tonight’s Cheering For Charity partner is Legacy. It’s been a terrific initiative to have the Cheering For Charity horse chosen by the public each week, and I encourage everyone to get involved. Congratulations to jockey Damian Lane, who will tonight be presented with his award as the leading rider in the Catanach’s Jewellers Brent Thomson Jockey Challenge over the Ladbrokes Cox Plate Carnival. His four wins and three minor placings over the two meetings saw him secure the prize ahead of Mark Zahra and James McDonald. We’ve got a big December of Summer Racing coming up, starting with three Friday night meetings. With the weather warming up, and a fantastic range of dining options available, The Valley is the ideal venue for your end of year celebrations. And he’s paid us so far and rewarded us.” It was no great surprise therefore to see Stanely throw his three-year-old straight into the deep end, contesting the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes on Derby Day at his next outing. What proceeded in the stallion making sprint was nothing short of a nightmare, but Celui has bounced out of the run well and is ready to return to the winner’s enclosure this Friday night. “In the Coolmore, barriers opened – couldn’t win. Went a furlong, was even worse. After 600 metres – horrific,” Stanley said. “Horses can’t over race and belt into other horses at that level. They were going slow, they were walking so he over raced bad, hence why the leader won. “But he’s improved out of that, and he’s pulled up well. So, we’ll forget about the Coolmore.” Celui will now contest the Three-Year-Old Benchmark 70 over 1000-metres at The Valley on Friday, an identical race to the one he was able to capture two starts back.
