Dr Bernard Clarke Memorial Handicap Dr Bernard Clarke was a respiratory and intensive care physician at St Vincent’s Health for over forty years. He was the first Director of the Intensive Care Unit and instrumental in the planning and development of the collocated Private hospital. He was a great teacher and mentor to many doctors and nurses and his devotion to St Vincent’s Health was known to all. He was a keen race goer, having grown up near the Epsom racecourse in Mordialloc and was part owner in several horses during his life. He was a great family man, a father of ten, and loved nothing more than a day at the races with his wife and children.
