It was a fantastic first meeting of the season a fortnight back, with the track in good order and strong fields throughout the day. Point King’s victory in the Ranvet Travis Harrison Cup was one of the highlights. Today’s meeting features our first black-type race of the season, the Listed Paramount Liquor Carlyon Stakes. This race honours Norman Carlyon, whose significant contributions to the Moonee Valley Racing Club include serving as a committee member and Chairman. He spearheaded a number of initiatives and played a pivotal role in introducing the concept of night racing. The card also features the Dr Sheahan Plate, which pays tribute to Dr Gerald Sheahan, a distinguished Life Member of the Moonee Valley Racing Club. We were deeply saddened last week by the passing of champion mare Black Caviar. She ended her racing career with a flawless record from 25 starts, including 15 Group 1 victories. Trained by Peter Moody, Black Caviar displayed extraordinary natural speed and was honoured as Australian Racehorse of the Year for three consecutive years. We were fortunate to witness her brilliance at The Valley on seven occasions, including her final Victorian start in the 2013 William Reid Stakes. Today, MVRC pays tribute to Black Caviar and sends our condolences to her connections. We are back at The Valley on Saturday, 7 September for the launch of our Spring Racing Carnival featuring the Group 1 Charter Keck Cramer Moir Stakes. CHAIR ADAM LENNEN CHAIR’S WELCOME WELCOME TO THE VALLEY FOR THE ITALIAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE RACEDAY. Moonee Valley Racing Club respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of this land, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the Kulin Nation, and pay our respects to its Elders past, present and emerging.
