First run in 1973, the Stocks Stakes recognises the contribution of the late W.H. Stocks, who served on the Moonee Valley Racing Club Committee from 1953 to 1968. The event is often targeted as a good lead-up race to other Group 2 and Group 1 features further into the Spring Carnival such as the Blazer Stakes and Myer Classic. Notable quality mares have won the race including She’s Archie, Atlantic Jewel, King’s Rose, Don’t Doubt Mamma, I Am A Star and Mystic Journey.
