The Moonee Valley Racing Club has a very strong relationship with the Japan Racing Association, dating back to the inaugural running With a reciprocal race hosted in Japan each year, the race serves as an ideal lead-up for staying types honing their fitness for the longer races during the spring. The field has been known to assemble some handy types who go on to Group 1 success – W.S. Cox Plate winner Maldivian in 2007, Caulfield Cup winner Master O’Reilly in 2007, and Melbourne Cup winner Shocking in 2009.
