The Valley

CHAIRMAN’S Welcome Moonee Valley Racing Club respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of this land, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the Kulin Nation, and pay our respects to its Elders past, present and emerging. What a night of racing we have ahead of us this Friday with the launch of the Ladbrokes Friday Nights 2022/23 season. The nine-race card sees no less than five black-type races, including the $1 million Group 1 Charter Keck Cramer Moir Stakes over 1000 metres. The first Group 1 sprint race of the season provides a fascinating insight into the key sprinters heading into the spring. For the winner, it is a chance to secure a potential $1m bonus should they go on to compete in the Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes and then win the VRC Champions Sprint. The Rob Heathcote-trained sprinter Rothfire looks a strong contender to take out his second Group 1 on Friday and could well be aiming up for that sprint bonus if heads onto the Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes. On Friday, he’ll have Paulele, Generation, Coolangatta, Extremely Lucky, The Inferno and 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes winner September Run for company. Tonight’s racing also honours some important figures in our Club’s great history – the Group 3 University Food Group Scarborough Stakes (former Chairman Bob Scarborough), Group 2 Entry Education Stutt Stakes (former Committee Member Bill Stutt), and the Group 2 Ladbrokes Stocks Stakes (former Committee Member Bill Stocks). We also look forward to the start of the Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge series. There's $55,000 up for grabs to the winning trainer with the fastest time across the season. It was fantastic to see the training partnership of Lyn Tolson and Leonie Procter take out last year’s prize with their star sprinter Curran posting the fastest time in the very first heat. Members may wish to note that they will have an exclusive opportunity to have their photo taken with the 2022 Ladbrokes Cox Plate Trophy in the Octagonal Lounge. Enjoy the first night racing meeting on what will be a huge weekend of sport. DON CASBOULT CHAIRMAN Moonee DON CASBOULT CHAIRMAN
