HELLO AND WELCOME TO LADBROKES FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. We were treated to a remarkable Lunar New Year celebration last week, powered by Alinta Energy with the support of the Australian Chinese Jockey Club. It was a terrific atmosphere, with a big crowd on course enjoying the festivities. Stakes racing returns to The Valley this evening with the running of the Listed PKF Torney Night Cup over 2500m, named in honour of Geoff Torney AM. Geoff played a pivotal role during his 14-year tenure on the Moonee Valley Racing Club Committee and his influence extended throughout the racing industry for over four decades. The PKF Torney Night Cup is also our selected Cheering For Charity race for this evening, with Racing Hearts our charity partner. On behalf of the MVRC, I’d like to express my condolences to connections of Verry Elleegant following her passing during the week. She had an incredible will to win, evidenced by 11 victories at Group 1 level, and her fighting third in the 2021 Ladbrokes Cox Plate behind State Of Rest and Anamoe. She was a true champion of the sport. We’re back racing at The Valley next week for our penultimate Ladbrokes Friday Night Lights meeting of the season and I look forward to seeing you on track. CHAIR ADAM LENNEN CHAIR’S WELCOME Moonee Valley Racing Club respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of this land, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the Kulin Nation, and pay our respects to its Elders past, present and emerging.
