The McEwen Stakes pays tribute to the late Ian McEwen, who served as Chief Executive of the Moonee Valley Racing Club from 1970 to 1991, with the Club experiencing remarkable growth under Ian’s visionary leadership. Collaborating with Chairman Bill Stutt in the 1970s, they elevated the W.S. Cox Plate to become the premier weight-for-age championship in Australasia.
