JIM MOLONEY STAKES Hall of Fame trainer Jim Moloney was the patriarch of one of the biggest and most successful families in Australian racing. Calling Caulfield home since the mid-1990s after moving from the Epsom Training Centre, Jim prepared arguably Australia’s greatest ever sprinter, Vain. He also saddled Affinity to Caulfield Cup glory in 1984 among a string of Group 1 triumphs across his career. Today, the Moloney name remains synonymous with Victorian racing with Jim’s sons, Gerard and John, continuing to train, and grandson, Patrick, a Group 1-winning jockey.
