The Valley

By Ben Caluzzi The 2025 Group 1 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes was one to savor for New South Wales based training partnership John O’Shea & Tom Charlton, as their well-bred sprinter Schwarz led from pillar to post to land his biggest career success. It was also a highlight victory and an important milestone for well-renowned owner and breeder Anthony Mithen and the Rosemont Victorian Alliance team, who landed their first Group 1 win since the partnership formed in 2021. Schwarz was purchased by that very team at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. The hammer went down at a lofty $1.25 million for the son of Zoustar out of a Not A Single Doubt mare, and after claiming the 3 Point Motors William Reid Stakes, that price has been vindicated and a future at stud all but locked away. Schwarz begun his 2025 campaign with a dominant win in the Clamms Seafood Australia Stakes at The Valley. He controlled the race from the front as he likes to do, and proved too speedy for Steparty and Apache Song, with the well-backed favourite Southport Tycoon, now retired, never a factor back in the field. His next assignment was the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes out in trip to 1400 metres. This time he led until the 200-metre mark but swiftly put up the white flag and ran a distant last, with superstar Weight For Age gallopers Another Wil and Mr Brightside fighting out the finish.
