The Valley

1 chairman’s welcome As we draw the curtain on another year, this Friday at The Valley is a chance to celebrate our wonderful industry and everyone associated with it. Here’s to all of the amazing horses, the fearless and inspiring jockeys, the owners, the trainers, our loyal members and all of the industry participants who have helped us put on a show throughout the year. The last meeting of 2021 at The Valley is set to be a cracking night of racing run under balmy conditions. It seems there is a theme to the runners on the night – with an inordinate number of last start Valley winners lining up to stake their claims again. Among them are Alverdun in the Class 1 1600m, Aminatu and Kev’s Girl in Heat 10 of the Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge, Just Stellar in the Fillies & Mares 1600m Benchmark 64 and tough stayer Guns Ablazing – who will be looking for back-to-back wins in the Benchmark 70 over 3000m. Our Cheering for Charity bet this week is in race 5 where we will be cheering on Jamie Kah and the Price and Kent Junior-trained Spooning to hopefully convert our $500 Ladbrokes win bet. Our Cheering for Charity partner for New Year’s Eve is Behind the Barriers – who do so much valuable work helping racing industry participants and their family members living with mental health issues. Gates open on the New Year’s Eve twilight meeting at the earlier time of 4:15 pm for a 5:15 pm start. It is going to be a fun, relaxed, party atmosphere as we celebrate 2021 with the racing, music and a live 100% Kylie show followed by a spectacular fireworks display. Please make sure to stay safe tonight, plan ahead, and bring your mask on what will be a wonderful way to round out the year! Don Casboult Chairman
