The Valley

CHAIRMAN’S Welcome I hope you are healthy and well rested after a short let up and ready for our final race meeting of the season. The nine-race card sees a return to Saturday racing for the Dominant meeting, with some competitive and quality fields lining up. It is also a day for us to remember the late Travis Harrison who was a promising young apprentice jockey before his untimely passing aged just 18 in 1996 - tragically losing his life in a car accident. We are proud to name the Ranvet Travis Harrison Cup in his honour. Congratulations to Jye McNeil on his thoroughly deserving victory in the Catanach’s Jewellers Jockey Premiership this season. Following in the footsteps of Jamie Kah who took out last year’s Championship, Jye will be a clear winner this season with 93 points. It has certainly been a season of many highlights. We again had to endure the frustration of running our Ladbrokes Cox Plate Carnival behind closed doors, but it did nothing to detract from the thrilling racing and incredible achievements over a drama-packed weekend last October. From Daniel Moor’s quick-fire Group One double at The Valley taking out the Charter Keck Cramer Moir Stakes and a week later the Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes; to Ladbrokes Cox Plate favourite Zaaki scratching on the morning of the big race due to an elevated temperature; to the theatre of the race itself with State Of Rest and Anamoe fighting out a match race down the straight and into the Stewards’ Room – it was certainly an eventful start to the spring! And so we prepare for this year’s Carnival – one which will finally see us back at The Valley to celebrate the Centenary running of the W.S. Cox Plate – Australia’s Best Race. Nearly all of our hospitality and dining packages have already been snapped up and many of you are also making sure you get your spot at one of the many events in the lead-up. Once again, thank you so much for showing your support for the Club over the past two years and we can’t wait to put on a show for you this upcoming season. In the meantime, we wish all participants good luck today and we can’t wait to see you back trackside for the start of the 2022/23 season at the McMahon’s Dairy McKenzie Stakes on Saturday 20 August. DON CASBOULT CHAIRMAN Moonee Valley Racing Club respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of this land, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the Kulin Nation, and pays its respects to its Elders past, present and emerging.
