LLOYD WILLIAMS PLATE The Moonee Valley Racing Club is honoured to award Life Membership to Lloyd Williams. Lloyd has been a long serving financial member for over 50 years and proud ambassador of the Club. Lloyds Favourite Moonee Valley moment was watching the 1995 W.S. Cox Plate with a great friend, the late Jack Ingham, when Jacks horse Octagonal defeated Mahogany by a nose. It was in the shadow of the post and Octagonal became the first three-year old since Red Anchor to win the W.S. Cox Plate, later being named Racehorse of the Year. Lloyd fondly recalls what a wonderful day that was at The Valley! As an owner, Lloyd has had multiple W.S. Cox Plate runners in the past, but a memory that resonates the most was the 1974 W.S. Cox Plate when Lloyds’ then three-year old, Plush, ran a gallant fourth and in more recent years with his old marvel, Zipping.
