The Valley

Typhoon Tracy was a legend of the turf who stamped her mark on the sprinting ranks from the outset when she won her debut race held at The Valley in 2008 by five-and-a-half lengths. The Peter Moody-trained mare went on to win six Group One races from just 20 career starts and was named Australian racehorse of the year in 2010. The last meeting of our 5-week Summer Carnival this Friday is headlined by the Group 3 race first named in her honour in 2011. Run over 1200m for 3-year-old fillies under set-weights-andpenalties, the Spendthrift Australia Typhoon Tracy Stakes has attracted a stellar field this year which sees the likes of Snapped, Scorched Earth and Larkspur Run lining up. This is the final week for horses to make a late bid for The Valley Summer Series Sprinters and Stayers Finals. Race 5 and 6 this week will fittingly be Heat 5 and 6 of The Valley Summer Stayers Series, while Race 8 will be Heat 6 of The Valley Summer Sprinters Series. We can’t wait to see who will make the $125,000 finals next week. Heat 14 of the Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge has come up very strong despite only seven starters. Last start Valley winners Midwest, Young Liam and Abaddon will clash in a cracking race – vying to beat the time of 54.61 seconds set by clubhouse leader Curran in the very first heat back in September. This week’s Cheering for Charity horse is Mariamia running in race 8 on the card in the RULE Prostate Cancer Handicap over 1200m. Let’s give the 5-year-old mare a cheer as she carries the $500 win bet courtesy of Ladbrokes with all winnings going to RULE in their fight against prostate cancer. The Valley is set to come alive once more – with more and more racegoers returning to enjoy an 8-race program full of excitement, trackside entertainment, delicious food and dining options. Gates open at 5:15PM with the first race off at 6:15PM. Enjoy your evening – it’s going to be a wonderful meeting! CHAIRMAN’S WELCOME DON CASBOULT CHAIRMAN
