Ladbrokes Cox Plate 100 - Saturday 24th October 2020

1 Today marks a landmark day in the history of our Club as we celebrate the 100th running of our LEGENDARY race - the W.S. Cox Plate. While the celebration may not be what many of us had hoped or planned for, it hasn’t stopped us in recognising the great stories of the previous 99 editions of the race. On Ladbrokes Cox Plate Day last year, we unveiled the specially made 9-carat yellow gold Ladbrokes Cox Plate trophy valued at $200,000, which has since become a centrepiece of our celebrations in the build-up. Today we will unveil another iconic landmark which further cements the iconic history of ‘The Race Where Legends Are Made’ here at The Valley. When Violoncello faced the starter in the 1922 Cox Plate to win the first edition of the race, I am certain the Committee at the time would be delighted to see their vision for the race lives with such status almost a century later. Through these unprecedented times, we are delighted to retain $5 million prizemoney and offer the $1 million Ladbrokes Cox Plate Boost for our signature race for today’s four eligible runners in Fierce Impact, Russian Camelot, Arcadia Queen and Humidor. We are thrilled to have established a field of elite Weight-for-Age performers, including international participation in these uncertain times, and the winner will no doubt be a worthy one that will cement their place in history. 2020 has been a challenging year for us all, in particular businesses, and the support the Club has received from our partners has been unwavering. I would like to thank major partner Ladbrokes and all our supporting Cox Plate Day sponsors for such dedication during this period and I trust they enjoy the day from far. To our loyal Members, the Club has worked hard in delivering the best at home experience we possibly can, and I hope you enjoy one of the great days of Australian sport.
