When qst re riding round h/turn & early in straight, rdr std he placed mnt under pressure after 600m but when it did not quicken as hoped, he remained positioned behind leader on straightening. Std whilst he could have shifted inwards on straightening, he was reluctant to as he felt track was favouring horses making wider runs & he was instructed to try to improve outwards. Added for a short distance after 200m he was unable to fully test mnt, but after applying full pressure from the 150m it closed race off well, albeit over concluding stages was awkwardly placed on heels. WYNG 06/09/2024 Berkshire Breeze (IRE) When questioned re riding tactics, rdr reported no specific instructions given, other than not to be caught outside the leader. He said after jumping away well, he was of the belief he would be caught wide in early stages, so elected to restrain mnt and settle at rear of field. Added he considered making a run around field from the 1000m, however at this point of race, the tempo quickened and he was content to follow another runner into the straight. He further added his mnt performed well but was not entirely suited by the Heavy 8 track conditions. Tnr confirmed nature of the instructions. When questioned re the improved performance, tnr echoed the post-race comments of the rdr from its disappointing performance on 17/8/24 where the horse got back in the field and was not suited by the tempo of the race which developed into a sprint home. Tnr said the firmer track would also, in his view, explain the improved performance as the horse has always displayed a preference for a good racing surface. He said after beginning well and with the moderate tempo throughout the early stages, he allowed the gelding to stride forward without being pressured, where it obtained an off-pace position three wide and without cover.
