Kilcoy

VALE: 1200880 ALEXANDER (CHUCK) BERRY Chuck was a valued member of Kilcoy Diggers, and with his everpresent red kelpie Miss, thought nothing of driving 140k from his home in the Kingaroy area to lend a hand setting up for the races. As a medic, he served two 12-month deployments to South Vietnam, firstly with 104 Field Battery (Artillery) at Nui Dat, and secondly with the 1st Australian Field hospital at Vung Tau. After his military service he studied to become a radiographer and spent many years working in a variety of hospitals around Australia, finally ending up at the Kingaroy Hospital. After retiring, he raised cattle on a property in the Corndale area where he lived a simple life without mains power or a television. As such, he was an avid reader and taught himself to speak Italian and Russian. He was also a lover of Aussie Bush Poetry and could recite a verse or two no matter the time of day or night. In recent years he moved into a house in Kingaroy and was learning to speak Thai. His sudden passing will remain a mystery to all who had the good fortune to know him. Chuck was a gentleman in the true sense of the word - quiet and unassuming, always up for a chat and a cuppa and whilst he is sorely missed, he’s not forgotten
