9 Changes to the Australian Rules of Racing which took effect from the 1st October, 1997 now permit patrons to have a mobile phone on a racecourse. However, unless with special permission from the Stewards, mobile phones, radio transmitters, radio transreceivers or any other appliance, apparatus, instrument or equipment that is capable of receiving or transmitting information, must be turned off: (a) In the Mounting Yard. (b) The scales area. (c) Any specific area designated by the Stewards. No person shall transmit from the grounds of a racecourse any betting odds being offered by a bookmaker. Furthermore, mobile phones will not be permitted within the area of the Jockeys’ Room. Please contact the Stewards should any persons have any queries in relation to these changes. Notice - Mobile Phones QLD’s Non-Smoking Law The law prohibits any patron of the Gold Coast Turf Club smoking in an indoor or outdoor area where food or drink is consumed or sold. As a result, smoking is prohibited in all areas of the Club’s grounds aside from the “Designated Smoking Areas” DESIGNATED SMOKING AREAS No food or drink is permitted in these areas • Service Road, behind GG’s Bar • Entrance Lawn, clearly marked Designated Smoking Areas
