Doomben

Today at Doomben is the finale of the National Apprentice Race Series. The series began at Hobart’s Elwick racecourse (March 23) and then on to Fannie Bay in Darwin (March 28), Ascot in Perth (April 2), Murray Bridge in SA (April 9), before the final heats at Doomben. There are two races designated for selected apprentice riders from each State, except NSW, which now does not enter a team in the series. The opportunity to travel to various venues provides the young riders with an opportunity to experience different course layouts and to learn from many of the most promising talents in Australia. Successful jockeys such as Glen Boss, Jimmy Orman, Damien Lane, Angela Jones, etc, has all participated in the NARS in the early stages of their careers.
