13 Betting Regulations Bet Limits At all race meetings conducted in the Northern Territory, a bookmaker is obliged to lay the odds displayed if demanded by the backer (including bet backs), except that the bookmaker is not compelled to lose on any one bet more than: (a) $1000 on any one Win only bet, Win and Place bet or Each Way bet. (b) $600 on any one Place only bet. (c) These limits apply up until 3 minutes prior to the advertised starting time of all local and interstate races. (d) No bookmaker shall accept a bet of less than $1 or where the bet is win and place - $1 each way. Prior to the commencement of betting on each race bookmakers must display a sign on their board clearly stating whether they wish to bet Win Only, Win and Place, Place Only or Each Way. Provided that once betting for that race has commenced no bookmaker is permitted to change from the form of betting displayed on their board. A bookmaker operating on a racecourse shall exhibit the odds first offered by him or her on each horse engaged in a local race at least 30 minutes before the advertised starting time of the first race and thereafter within 5 minutes after the declaration of correct weight or announcement of a protest. Betting Bookmakers will payout in the following manner depending on the number of runners in the field at the time the bet was placed: 8 or more runners – pay first, second and third 5, 6 or 7 runners – pay first and second 4 runners or less – pay first only Late scratching In the event a horse is a late scratching all bets on that runner are to be refunded (except for all in betting) and the Stewards will order deductions apply to all successful wagers on the race. Disputes Punters are advised to check the details of their betting ticket prior to leaving the vicinity of the Bookmakers stand. If there is a dispute in relation to any bet or you lose your betting ticket contact the Betting Supervisor located in the bookmakers ring.
