Welcome to a very special edition of the 2022 Ladbrokes Cox Plate Carnival, which will see a spectacular return to The Valley as we celebrate the Centenary of the W.S. Cox Plate! The grandstands have stood empty for the last two years, and the excitement is building for a memorable two days of thrilling black-type racing, delicious dining, and electric entertainment in the unique cauldron of The Valley. Day one of the Carnival on the evening of Friday 21 October, will see the 55th edition of the Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes - a race named after the legendary sprinter who became a folk hero at The Valley in the late seventies and early eighties. Every year, we look forward to witnessing the best sprinters in the land fight it out over 1200m in Australia’s richest race under lights. The race has built a roll call that is a who’s who of sprinting heroes and we saw the Tony Gollan-trained Jonker add his name to the list last year with a victory that gave Daniel Moor his third Group 1 in just four weeks. The Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes holds a special place in the hearts of the racing public and is an important fixture on the Australian racing calendar. With the crowds back this year and the prizemoney for the feature sprint race now boosted to $2m, Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes Night will herald a return to the uniquely special atmosphere of racing under lights and an event not to be missed. Day two of the Carnival on Saturday 22 October comprises a ten-race card brimming with Group racing and highlighted by the Centenary of the W.S. Cox Plate – Australia’s Best Race. TheWeight-For-Age Championship over 2040m is the ultimate test of speed and stamina, and this year another legend will step forward. This was certainly the case last year as Irish raider State Of Rest outgunned the Godolphin runner Anamoe in an epic duel down the straight, with Australian of the Year horse – and Melbourne Cup winner – Verry Elleegant arriving late into third. TheW.S. Cox Plate is a race like no other. For 100 years, equine heroes and superstar jockeys have etched their names into the history books. It is ‘The Race Where Legends Are Made!’ With the gates to The Valley back open and a variety of dining and ticketing options available over the Carnival, now is your chance to witness the next chapter of history being written.
