TECHFORM’S TOP 5 5 Jentico 100 11 Promotions 97 1 Viral 94 7 Wicklow Town 94 4 Last Kingdom 94 FRANK O’BRIEN FRANK O’BRIEN was one of Australia’s finest broadcasters in a golden era for racing, calling the exciting winning performances of champions like Kingston Town, Dulcify, Super Impose, Bonecrusher, Vogue Rogue and Better Loosen Up in a career that lasted 41 years. He called his first race at the age of 15 at Alexandra and two years later, in 1952, joined the race calling panel at 3UZ. A year later when Fred Tupper resigned as the racecaller for 3AW, Frank was appointed his successor. When 3AW ceased its racing coverage in 1959 Frank crossed to 3LO where he worked with one of the doyens of Australian racecallers, Joe Brown, calling the last race on the programme. When Joe Brown stepped down as the Course Broadcaster in 1974, Frank took over at Flemington and Moonee Valley. He called his last race at Moonee Valley on 27th July, 1991. Frank passed away on 12th May 2006.
