2 VALE JIM JOHNSON The Melbourne Racing Club extends its condolences to the Johnson family and the wider racing community on the passing of Hall Of Fame member Jim Johnson. Jim’s career in the saddle spanned more than 30 years, riding his first winner in 1945 at the beginning of a remarable career that saw him rise to fame internationally. He’d taste success in 125 feature races, most notably partnering the champion Tobin Bronze to victory in the Caulfield Cup and two Cox Plates. Jim also claimed back-to-back Melbourne Cups in 1968 and 1969 with Rain Lover, while the spring of 1966 saw him win an astonishing nine weight-for-age events. He will be sorely missed by many.
