We recognise that Safety is an integral part of every activity we perform, and as such we will comply with all OHS legislation and industry standards. Emergency Response In the unlikely event of a major emergency, our Emergency Management Plan will take effect immediately. Patrons in effected areas will be communicated immediately by either Public Address announcements, the big screen, TV screens, our wardens (MRC staff) or our EWIS siren. EMERGENCYWARNINGAND INTERCOMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM (EWIS) Alert Alarm Sound: ‘Beep.... beep.... beep’. Cease all activity Secure all confidential and valuable items, if it is safe to do so Follow wardens instructions Evacuation Alarm Sound: ‘Whoop.... whoop.... whoop’. Leave venue via safest exit Proceed to assembly area as advised Do not use lifts and please refrain from using mobile phones during an emergency. To make a report on a raceday please call: Incident Reporting and Customer Feedback If you are involved in an incident or near miss or are aware of any hazards, please report them to us using an Incident and Hazard Report form which are available from the Raceday Office. Alternatively, any ideas, suggestions or concerns you have relating to safety can be e-mailed directly to our Safety Department on risk@mrc.net.au Emergency Markers In the event of an emergency, we have strategically placed “Emergency Markers” around the venue (Caulfield only). If you are reporting an emergency, please look for one of the green and white signs and quote the letters and numbers displayed. These signs have been mapped out by emergency services via GPS, and will ensure the quickest possible response. Responsible Service of Alcohol In conjunction with VCGLR and Victoria Police, The Melbourne Racing Club staff and management are committed to Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) initiatives. All bar and restaurant service staff hold a current RSA certificate and will not serve intoxicated patrons. Patrons that are deemed quarrelsome or intoxicated will be escorted off the premises. First Aid We have first aid facilities at all of our venues. If you are injured or unwell, please ask our staff for directions to this service. Sun Exposure Please remember that a day at the Races may involve significant time under the sun. Time in the sun can cause skin cancer through exposure to UV and heat illnesses. Clouds will not protect you from UV exposure. In order to prevent harmful effects of the sun we suggest that you consider broad brimmed hats, sun screen, long sleeved clothing and sun glasses, utilizing shade and indoor viewing areas and keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Alcohol and soft drinks will not provide adequate re-hydration. AS 4801 Health & Safety
