The Slipper form line
This year’s Golden Slipper Stakes was
dominated by the fillies—the first seven across
the line were females—and that form line is
likely to transfer to the Royal Randwick Stakes.
Outside the impressive Slipper winner Mossfun
and the high-class runner-up Earthquake, who
are heading for the paddock, three of the most
impressive performances came from
Memorial
(fifth),
Oakleigh Girl
(sixth) and
Eloping
(seventh).
The most recent filly to win the Royal Randwick
Stakes after running in the Golden Slipper is
Blizzardly (2006), who finished sixth behind
Stratum in the Slipper.
Will it be Magic?
The Magic Night Stakes (1200m, Rosehill),
run a week before the Golden Slipper, is the
usual lead-up race for Royal Randwick Stakes
contenders.
The most recent filly to contest the Magic Night
and win the Royal Randwick Stakes was the
outstanding Streama (2011)—she finished sixth
behind Altar at Rosehill.
This year’s Magic Night Stakes contenders to
compete in the Royal Randwick Stakes include
Sultry Feeling
and
Clifton Red
.
