On Track - Autumn 2021

12 COMMUNITY UPDATE ME AND UOO UOO This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Melbourne Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) and to celebrate. The RCH Foundation has organised an impressive public art trail throughout Melbourne and Geelong’s streets. Me and UooUoo (pronounced you-you) encourage the public to visit one hundred unique art sculptures, get active and reconnect with their city. A UooUoo is an imaginary Australian creature based loosely on the wombat and dugong animals, created by award-winning Melbourne artist Alexander Knox. Each UooUoo is sponsored by a Victorian business and has been uniquely decorated by a local artist. Located in various public spaces, including parks, streets, and laneways to form walking trails throughout Melbourne and Geelong, the sculptures will then be auctioned to raise funds for the RCH when the art trail finishes. There is a local Me and UooUoo Anniversary Art Trail with ten amazing and unique UooUoo sculptures scattered around the Moonee Valley district. The idea is to scan the QR Code at each UooUoo sculpture and “collect” them, which can unlock some great prizes and rewards. The Moonee Valley Racing Club has its own UooUoo in the new TOTE Park called “Flowers and Fun”, created by local artist Tegan Iversen. Flowers and Fun is inspired by beauty in nature. There are pretty petals, big green leaves, flowers growing and blooming, and cheeky ladybugs hiding amongst them all in addition to beautiful stars, fluffy white clouds and colourful, amazing rainbows. Moonee Valley Racing Club General Manager, The Valley Rozalee Erceg, was thrilled the Club was supporting the Royal Children’s Hospital. “Our Club has been a long time supporter of the Royal Children’s Hospital and the great work they do to improve the health and wellbeing of children and adolescents. The Me and UooUoo Art Trail is such a great and clever way to raise funds, and we hope, as a bonus, having our very own UooUoo sculpture will encourage people to explore Moonee Valley and come and see the amazing TOTE Park in person.” The Flowers and Fun UooUoo that sits in TOTE Park at The Valley.
