12 COMMUNITY UPDATE AROUND THE VALLEY $30,000 RAISED FOR RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE VICTORIA & TASMANIA The MVRC is delighted to announce that $30,000 was raised for Ronald McDonald House Charities Victoria & Tasmania through the sale of our 2019 Cox Plate Carnival Charity Pins. Through the generous donations made by MVRC Members and racegoers over the Carnival, the money raise will now be utilised by RMHC VIC & TAS to enhance the quality of life for families with sick children. RMHC VIC & TAS provide a home-away- from-home that is welcoming, caring and supportive, with four Ronald McDonald Houses across Victoria & Tasmania, located at Monash, North Fitzroy, Parkville and Hobart. “This is just a great result and the funds raised will enable our charity to provide over 187 nights of accommodation for families with seriously ill children across our chapter,” said Peter Bishop, CEO, Ronald McDonald House Charities Victoria & Tasmania. MOVEMBER MOVEMENT HITS THE VALLEY While there were some questionable moustaches on certain MVRC staff members throughout November, it was all for a great cause as the Club raised over $8,000 for Movember Australia. Movember are the leading charity changing the face of men’s health, with a focus on prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health and suicide prevention. Since 2003, money raised from the Movember movement has gone towards funding over 1,250 men’s health projects. “We were thrilled to work with the team at the Moonee Valley Racing Club this Movember to help stop men dying too young,” said Jake Lambert, Movember’s Community Development Executive. “By having racing personalities Ben Asgari and Dean Yendell lead the team, along with a group of dedicated Mo Bro’s and Mo Sista’s from the Club’s staff, we were able to raise crucial funds and awareness for Testicular Cancer, Prostate Cancer and Mental Health & Suicide Prevention.” “Not only did the club raise over $8,000, the amount of men Movember was able to reach through activating at The Valley throughout the month promoted conversations and action around men’s health and we’re already looking forward to what the 2020 hairy season looks like at The Valley!” It has been a busy period of community activity at the Moonee Valley Racing Club throughout Spring, with a key focus on helping raise awareness and funds for some very worthy charitable organisations.
