MV On Track 2018
22 ON TRACK MAGAZINE WINNING LIKE A BOSS By Brian Meldrum G len Boss was destined to be a star at The Valley. You see, most budding jockeys dream of riding a Melbourne Cup winner, but not G.Boss. “As a kid all I ever wanted to do was win the Cox Plate,” he said. And win it he did, not just once but three times, twice on horses that were true champions of the turf, and a third time on a Kiwi four-year-old with a heart as big as a lion. Would you believe, Boss’ very first ride around The Valley was in a Cox Plate, in 1996, on a 20-1 shot named Adventurous, trained by Gai Waterhouse. It ran last. Given he began his career as a jockey in southern Queensland, it does seem somewhat odd that Boss would latch onto the W.S. Cox Plate as the race he most wanted to win. The answer to that lies in a video tape entitled ‘The King and the Man”.
